Why AI gives generic answers
And what actually fixes it.
If the answers you get feel like they were written for nobody in particular, that is because they were. Here is the actual mechanism, and the two real fixes.
The mechanism
An AI model answers from what is in front of it. If all it has is your question, it has to write for the average person who might have asked that question. The average person has no kids, no deadline, no dietary restriction and no opinion about tone. So you get the average answer.
This is not the model being lazy. It is the model being careful with an absence of information.
Why prompting only half works
The standard advice is to write better prompts: state your context, your constraints, your preferred format. It works, and that is the problem. It works every single time, because you have to do it every single time.
Prompt engineering is a workaround for a missing memory. It puts the burden of continuity on you, forever, and it fails the moment you are tired or in a hurry, which is precisely when you most need a good answer.
The two real fixes
1. Give it a standing memory
